A Luxury Travel poll asked what readers would least miss about summer. Most people didn't even want to think about the season's inevitable end.
The Luxury Travel section regrets the end of summer as much as anyone. Sure, Autumn's nice, but school and work schedules have a way of cutting into leisure travel.
A recent poll focused on this idea: Summer's over, but don't cry - those salty tears might remind you of the ocean. Instead, why not think about what you will LEAST miss about those long, lazy days of July and August?
And the results...
In first place, with 44.64% of the votes, is the last option, "Stop trying to make me feel better!"
In second place is "Being mosquito food," with 25% of the votes.
14.29% of our voters picked the third-place option, "The heat and humidity are cruel to my hair."
In fourth place, with 8.93% of the votes, is "I'm more of a cold-weather person, anyway," and 7.14% opted for the last place choice, "I'm sick of using sunscreen."
So, what do these poll results tell us? First, obviously, is that summertime is awesome, and that an overwhelming majority of us don't want to see it end. But there are parts of the world that do seem to have endless summers. Plan a vacation to the US Virgin Islands, or Hawaii, and you'll break up your dreary winter with some fun in the tropics.
Voters picked "Being mosquito food" enough for it to rate second place in this poll. Slather all the Deep Woods Off on you that you want; Research by the impartial folks at Consumer Reports found that Deep Woods Off and 3M Ultrathon, both of which contain DEET, work best and longest at repelling insects.
Third place in this poll went to acknowledging the hair-destroying capabilities of the summer sun (chlorine and ocean water no doubt play a role here as well). Besides the usual end-of-summer haircut, I'd like to recommend Nature's Gate organic, all-natural hair products. Like Lush and L'Occitane, Nature's Gate is built on the philosophy of being cruelty-free and ecologically safe. The botanical ingredients in Nature's Gate Chamomile & Lemon Verbena Moisturizing Shampoo, for dry and damaged hair, has really done wonders for my poor hair this past summer.
A minority of voters chose both "I'm more of a cold-weather person, anyway," and "I'm sick of using sunscreen." The percentile difference between these two is statistically insignificant, but for those of you who prefer winter weather, I'd like to introduce you to my fellow Suite writer, Mitch Kaplan. He loves skiing so much that he went to New Zealand this summer, just to hit the slopes! And for the few of you who are sick of sunscreen, well...yeah, applying sunscreen can be annoying, but it really takes less than a minute. You know how important it is. Perhaps you could make it part of your routine, as is brushing your teeth of putting on shoes before you go outside. It'll keep your face from aging prematurely, as well. Looking younger than your years? Now, that's what I call an endless summer!
