Readers were asked where they would most like to travel. Now, the Fantasy Vacation Poll results are analyzed. Where is your luxury travel locale?

Last month's poll asked readers to step back for a moment, and imagine the possibilities of luxury traveling with unlimited resources. Most of us can't take the time to go wherever we desire, after all. But if we could, one person would likely choose a different luxury locale than the next. Fantasy vacations in dream locations take on different meanings. Where would you like to go, if money were no object?

Space constraints prevented this fantasy vacation poll to list every conceivable option, of course. I received an email from one reader who was disappointed that she was not able to select France as her financial luxury location. South America and Africa were absent, as well as most of Europe. Nevertheless, nothing prevents us from daydreaming about taking a luxury vacation anywhere we like; in our fantasies, the possibilities are endless.

My current dream vacation would have to be in New Zealand. I don't see it being feasible for me to go there any time in the near future, though. Where is your fantasy locale?

Actually I am thinking New Zealand as well. I want to find The Shire, and Rohan, and Gondor. And see the places they filmed Xena. I'm SUCH a geek.

Since we can't really afford a New Zealand trip right now, Dan and I are finally going to take our honeymoon this year, but on a cruise ship to Alaska. We like that we can take it right from Seattle - don't have to fly anywhere first. :)

The dream for me has always been Greece. I'm a huge fan of ancient Greek architecture and literature. Oh, the oceanside location is a plus!

Yes, New Zealand is high on my list. Also Italy where I love to be. But I am mostly interested in exploring ancient Asian monasteries. Sometimes I'd like to be a monk for awhile...serene, no one to bug me... LOL

My aunt went to Greece a few years ago, Jodi, and she had a great time. The photos she took were just amazing; all clear blue sky and bleached-out white architecture. Good idea.

I know your topic is luxury travel but I voted North America because my dream vacation would be to the Alaskan wilderness. It does make sense though, with your readership, that North Americans would be dreaming of foreign luxuries.

I hear you about Alaska, Joy. My in-laws took an Alaskan cruise a few years ago, and the photos they brought back were just astounding. I prefer warm parts of the world, but I'd hate to think that THAT would be the sole reason keeping me from seeing some of America's last Great Wilderness.

Cool. Like I mentioned above, Dan and I are finally going to take our honeymoon (4 years late) on an Alaskan Cruise late this summer. We're checking out the options - there are so many to choose from. I can't wait. My mother still raves about her cruise to Alaska, and she's well off enough to have been on some other, really swanky vacations.

I for one am Jonesing to head over to Turkey with my husband. We recently discovered an AMAZING Turkish resto in Toronto called "Anatolia." Ashe, the chef- is truly inspired. We kept seeing these astounding photos of ancient, mystical-looking locales and while we dined on Imam Bayildi and sigara- we thought "we have to go there." Guess I'd fall in the forty-some odd % that picked the Mediterranean. Sigh- here's hoping we get there soon!

I wonder how true to their roots all these ethnic restaurants are. The Italian food I had in Italy spoiled me forever, for example, and it will be long time before I can set foot in a Sbarros again. I've noticed that restaurant owners usually think that to get Americans to eat at their establishments, they have to tone down on the spices. Chinese food in Chinatowns is usually spicier than those in other areas, haven't you noticed? Wonder if the Toronto restaurant Anatolia is more true to its Turkish roots than usual...
