Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Spring Break are all popular travel seasons. Voters decided which are their favorite holidays for vacations and getaways.

A Luxury Vacations poll read, "Holidays are the busiest travel days for a reason: They're the only times most of us can reliably depend on vacations from work. Which is your most favorite holiday to travel for a vacation?" Options included Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Spring Break, and Flag Day. Many people voted, the poll is closed, and the results have been tabulated. Let's take a look.

Favorite Holiday Vacation Travel Poll Results

  1. In first place, with 38.18% of the votes, is "Christmas and Chanukah: I practically live for my winter holiday!"
  2. In second place, with 23.64% of the votes, is "Valentine's Day: What are vacation getaways for, if not amore?"
  3. In third place, with 20.00% of the votes, is "Thanksgiving: Not that I like, to, but I HAVE to, to see family."
  4. Fourth place is a tie! Garnering a mere 9.09% each are "Spring Break: It's fun to travel with all those college kids," and "Flag Day: Let's take a weekend to respect Betsy Ross, shall we?"

  • The Luxury Vacations poll results are indicative of a fact many in the travel industry already know; Christmas is the busiest vacation travel season of the year. Whether it's a top luxury winter vacation or more of a budget trip, people travel more around this time of year than any other.
  • Ah, Valentine's Day. A long, romantic weekend away is often just what's needed to shake away the winter doldrums and add a little spice to a loving relationship. It's no wonder that Valentine's Day is the poll result's second most popular holiday for a vacation. Relatively nearby romantic weekend getaways make for easy travel, after all.
  • Thanksgiving, of course, is another story. Travel for Turkey Day is often fraught with crushing traffic, mind-numbing lines at the airports, and young children (and their aggrieved parents) barely keeping it together. Thanksgiving travel tips to reduce the stress may help. Oh, and the host family may want to reward their guests by avoiding some of the worst Thanksgiving dinner recipes around.
  • Spring Break and Flag Day tied for last place, indicating that either both are minimally popular holidays for travel, or (more likely) some jokers thought it would be funny to pump up the Flag Day stats. June 14th is, obviously, not a major travel holiday - but Spring Break is. College students famously travel to warmer climes to get into some mischief, with Florida, Texas, and Mexico regularly accepting the hordes with relatively open arms.
Regardless of which holiday is chosen for vacation travel, remember to be smart and plan ahead. Even the simplest getaway can be ruined by poor planning. Please, get to the airport early or drive safely.
