Fractional Life takes the concept of timeshares to a new level. Members can choose from among the best in this superclub, a one-stop shopping experience.

Renting luxury through expensive, upscale clubs is nothing new. Fractional jet ownership allows partial owners to have access to a private jets and airplanes, and fractional ownership of vacation homes though timeshares is common in every luxury resort vacation town. A new site, called Fractional Life, combines many luxury items in one "superstore" for people who enjoy a luxury lifestyle, without having to contend with the maintenance of private jets, resort homes, and other markers of the lux life.

I spoke with Piers Brown, the Managing Director of Fractional Life, and he told me he got the idea while driving a club-owned Ferrari F430 Spider. His concept is that of a "superstore" that maintains, and constantly updates, all manner of luxury items that are available for fractional ownership. This ranges from private jets, boats and luxury class cars, to smaller items like luxury label handbags. Even racehorses are available for fractional ownership. Imagine being partial owner of a thoroughbred, without worrying about the upkeep; this concept appeals to many wealthy, busy professionals. Vacation homes, as well, necessitate a lot of upkeep and maintenance - and when privately owned, the owners are responsible for the unpleasant aspect of second homes even while not living in them. Fractional Life finds the best clubs for luxury second home partial ownership, so you don't have to.

Piers Brown also told me that his business manages the distribution in this club format company, and is responsible for insurance issues (fully comprehensive) and equity sharing. From how Piers describes it, Fractional Life is a nice way for people who can't afford vacation homes, private jets, and the latest Prada handbag, to have access to said items. And, to be basically honest when saying, "yes, this is my yacht." Who needs to know the details?

Here is just a brief list of what Fractional Life has to offer:

Piers also pointed me to the Top 10 Fractional Ownership Deals which, as of this writing, includes the Classic Car Club. Members of the club can be part owners of a choice of 60 cars, including a Jaguar E-Type Roadster and the last ever hand-built Bentley Continental R. Also on the list is Tour GCX, which allows golfers to share membership at a variety of private golf clubs, with all membership privileges included therein.

This "one-stop shopping" approach to club membership and access to such a variety of luxury items is an idea whose time has come. I found the website easy to navigate and intuitive. Now, luxury products once only available to the ultrarich privileged class can be fractionally owned by others who also want to enjoy the lux life.

OK Sign me up for 0.001% of a decent sailing yacht! Then I would only need some more annual leave.

Okay, Alan - you can have the yacht. I'll take the helicopter! Or, more correctly, I'll take fractional ownership of it. :)
