Lush, a luxury bath and body products store, makes several different bath melts, all scented and best when fresh. These organic treats make baths fun and relaxing.

Lush, the handmade bath and body products store, is known for its many innovative, mostly organic treats. The bath bombs at Lush were fun to research and describe in a previous article. The next collection of items that I thought would be useful to research and summarize are the Lush Luxury Bath Melts. Unlike the Bath Bombs, bath melts are designed to dissolve slowly, giving you the opportunity to relax in an extended luxury bath. One of the primary ingredients of all (as far as I can tell) luxury bath melts, is cocoa butter. It is the added organic scents and additional skin-softening organic oils, that make each bath melt unique.

  • In The Nude - Besides the ever-present cocoa butter, the In The Nude bath melt has organic almond, chamomile, lavender, and rose oils. This pretty pink bar made my bath water milky and smooth. I though the scent was somewhat faint, but then, I only used half a bar. My skin felt silky for hours after the bath. Pair In The Nude with a Butterball bath bomb for a silky, moisturizing, yet subtly scented bath experience.
  • Floating Island - The Floating Island was the first bath melt I tried, and I was instantly hooked. The handmade, somewhat lopsided cupcake shape is appealing, somehow, and the scent of sandalwood, almonds and labdanum (a fragrant oil derived from Old World plants) makes it unisex. This is my favorite bath melt for bathing with a partner. Men who like luxury baths, love this bath melt! And I love it, too.
  • MMM - Also known as the Melting Marshmallow Moments bath melt, this one is cupcake shaped like the Floating Island. However, similarities stop there. The MMM has real, organic marshmallow powder in it, along with chamomile powder, cocoa butter (of course) and marigold powder. It didn't soften my skin as noticeably as some other melts. The MMM has a strong, sweet smell; I recommend using half a cupcake, perhaps followed with Lush's Candy Fluff dusting powder.
  • Dreamtime - The Dreamtime is my favorite bath melt for relaxing and getting sleepy. It is amazingly moisturizing, with organic sandalwood, jasmine, and lavender oils, and a little flower that makes its appearance once the Dreamtime has melted. It was recommended to me to combine this with a Waving Not Drowning bath bomb, but I was practically asleep in my tub as it was. The combination may have made me slip into a coma (kidding).
  • Creamy Candy - Despite the name, the Creamy Candy bath melt is less sweet smelling than is the MMM. It's bigger than Dreamtime; I was able to cut this one into thirds and got three very lovely baths out of it. There are supposed to be candy flowers in this melt ( I didn't see any), as well as organic cream of tartar, cocoa butter and vanilla. My bath turned milky and creamy. I recommend rubbing some of this melt on your skin for extra moisturizing.
  • Something Wicked This Way Comes - Ahh, I love this one! A deep purple melt, It gave my bath water a purple color, and smells great. Organic ginger, jasmine and almond oil make a spicy warm scent, and the pink colored cocoa butter bits take longer to dissolve for added softening. Something Wicked must be fresh, however, or off-notes may surface. While a friend complained of it smelling like grape juice, I disagree. She may have bought an older melt. Note: Stores no longer carry Something Wicked with glitter. If it's glitter you want, specify so in a mail-order.
  • You've Been Mangoed - The first bath melt I didn't like. This one has organic mango and avocado butter, lemongrass oil and paprika extract in it. It left an orange ring in my tub (most melts don't leave rings), it's smaller than most other bath melts, and the smell - while stimulating and citrusy - was just nothing special. I felt oily rather than moisturized, and it's a sad day when I have to follow a Lush bath with a shower! A Lush salesclerk suggested combining this melt with Happy soap and a Happy Pill, to bring out the citrus elements.
  • Elixer - As the name implies, you may feel you've been healed after a luxury bath with an Elixer bath melt. Real rose petals float on the surface, as cardamom, ginger, and ylang ylang sweeten your bathing experience. I felt as if I was bathing in a chai tea latte (a good thing), with glitter. You can choose a non-glitter option as well, but I think the fine glitter makes the bath more fun, and it washes down the drain without a problem. I used half a bar, however, and there may have been too much glitter had I used the whole thing.
  • Ceridwen's Cauldron - named for a mythological Welsh sorceress, this bath melt should appeal to all Excalibur/Lord of the Rings fans (well, the ones who also like to take baths, anyway). Ceridwen's Cauldron is unique in appearance: It comes tied up in a mesh cloth, because it contains whole oats. This makes it hard to divide, of course, but tossing the tied-up mesh cloth bag in my tub felt great. it is very softening, perhaps the most softening melt I used without combining with a bath bomb. Besides the oats, this bath melt contains walnut oil, cocoa butter (as they all do), tangerine and lavender, elderflowers, daisies, and cowslips (primroses). With an overall herbal scent that seems magical and otherworldly, this is not an overtly feminine melt. When it's dissolved, you can scrub yourself with the oats in the bag, and it will act as an exfoliant.

Jill Florio :
LOVE your bath melt piece. I have not used the melts yet. They seem rather small for the price.

I do have a free Floating Island that I have saved for a special evening for myself. That one seems cool. So does the one wrapped in burlap/muslin - I've heard you can use it in the shower as a moisturizing scrubbie and get like 6-7 uses out of it. Plus then you can use the muslin as a ballistic sock.

Small for the price, yes, but the Lush melts are different than their bombs; rarely have I used a melt all at once. You typically can get three long baths out of one bath melt. The exception is, I think, the one you mention. Ceridwen's Cauldron, in its musin wrap, is hard to divvy up. But, like you said, you can also get more than one use out of the wrap itself! And what a good idea, to use it for a ballistic with "stuff" in it. I'll remember that, for my next Big Blue bath bomb! :)
