The Sheraton Kauai Resort is located along a sandy stretch of Poipu Beach, in Hawaii. This location alone sets it apart from other family resorts on Kauai: Even the Grand Hyatt, a little down the road, has a rockier, less tourist-friendly beach. This Sheraton is a solidly 3-star, mid-sized resort hotel, but with tips and recommendations, a luxury travel buff can find ways to have a 4-star vacation here.
Ocean Front Rooms at the Sheraton Kauai Resort
The Deluxe Ocean Front rooms provide full-on, gorgeous views of the South Pacific. The Sheraton Kauai has many affordable rooms (some in need of renovation) that face the garden or even the parking lot - but to kick a Hawaii trip up a notch, these Ocean Front rooms are the best choice. The other rooms are across a quiet road from the main resort, whereas these ocean and beach-facing rooms give a better sense of being part of the property.
Enjoy the Pacific Ocean at the Sheraton Kauai Resort
The resort really scores with its beach. Other, more upscale resorts on this Hawaiian island may have marble floors and gigantic pools, but the Sheraton has the most swimmable beach. This may in fact be its strongest asset. Guests of the Grand Hyatt come to the Sheraton just to swim, splash, and snorkel. To be fair, guest of the Sheraton have been known to come to the Grand Hyatt for its pools.
Dining at the Sheraton Kauai Resort
As with most resort hotels, there are several restaurants on the property. For a luxury vacation feel, skip the Oasis Bar & Grill. Instead, try Shells Restaurant and Naniwa Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar. Shells Restaurant has a breakfast buffet that is more satisfying than morning room service, which can be slow. Sunset drinks are relaxing at The Point, but the food is basic. Also, the resort hosts a Mai Tai reception with Hawaiian music and hula dancing four days a week.
Romance at the Sheraton Kauai Resort
The resort has a new vacation package, "Kauai Kisses," which adds class and a bit of personalization to a romantic Hawaiian trip. It's in a Deluxe Ocean Front room, of course, and includes chocolate covered strawberries, a bottle of champagne, two plush robes and slippers, and jasmine-scented special bath amenities. A picture frame (with a Hawaiian love poem) makes for a nice keepsake as well.This romantic Hawaiian travel package is subject to price change, needless to say, and also subject to availability.
The Sheraton Kauai Resort is not a luxury resort in the manner of a Four Seasons. However, with its winning location, it has much to offer for an upscale vacation in Hawaii. Careful planning from tips and suggestions can result in a 4-star travel experience on this 3-star property. These days of smaller travel budgets makes a stay here a good idea. Besides, with all the wonderful snorkeling around Poipu and hiking activities in Waimea Canyon, the Sheraton Kauai Resort makes for one of the best centrally located properties on the island.
