Two travel themed photography contests offer money prizes and a bit of fame, while a video entry will win two people a Las Vegas vacation. All three end in March, 2009.

The global economy's a mess right now, and this affects luxury travel businesses as much as other forms of industry (if not more so). For travel lovers who are cutting back on their vacation budgets, looking over old travel photos can be more than just a type of nostalgia. In fact, finding the best snapshots and entering them in travel-related photography contests can actually earn those travelers some spending money. And what's better than winning a travel photo contest? Possibly, winning a vacation in and of itself (in this case, the winner should love Las Vegas). These are three Spring travel-related contests currently running, all of which are worth publicizing and free to enter.

Two Travel Themed Photography Contests

Peterman's Eye Travel Photo Contest requires joining the website, but that's free. Digital camera users can enter as many photos as they like, provided that the underlying theme relates to world travel. First prize is $2,000, 2nd prize is $1,000, and third prize is $500, and the contest ends on March 12, 2009. Peterman's Eye is a kind of online travel community, with an open forum for sharing ideas and opinions. It's easy to enter this photography contest: Simply upload the photo, write a caption, click "agree to the rules," and upload the digital photograph. Also, clicking on "All Photo Entries" allows readers to see the many photographs that have already been submitted. Luxury Travel spent quite a long time browsing this section!

Uptake's Spring Photo Contest also has no limits on the number of submissions, and there is a theme of Springtime for those photos. The winner of this travel photo contest gets $250, but also the pride and honor of having that winning picture used as Uptake's Spring season main page photo. Contest ends March 8, 2009 at midnight (PST). Uptake is a travel search engine, with pages of facts, tips and opinions regarding a wide range of American travel destinations. Photos don't have to be limited to the U.S., however, although the Spring travel theme is a requirement. Only one entry per day, please, and it's preferred that photos be on personal blogs, with a link on the comment section of Uptake contest page. Photographs can also be mailed in (not everyone has a blog, though it's getting close). See the contest page for mailing address.

Las Vegas Travel Contest

Win a trip for two to Las Vegas. Adults only, please! Here is a fun, almost interactive travel contest sponsored by the Las Vegas tourism board. Go to YouTube, and search for the "lasvegas' channel. Scroll down to the middle of the page to find the contest details. Briefly, contestants must make a short video - under 60 seconds - describing why they "need a Vegas break." Upload the video to YouTube, check for email confirmation, and have fun looking at other entrants' video submissions. Remember, there's plenty to do in Las Vegas; it doesn't have to be all about the casinos and endless buffets. Good luck!
