Your Fantasy Travel PlansDream Trips, from Tame Wishes for Sleep to Exciting Beach VacationsJul 13, 2007 Jennifer W. Miner
Luxury Travel poll results describe dream vacations. Some dream of traveling to their ancestral land, some want a worldwide trip, and some just want peaceful sleep!
The Spring Poll was all about travel fantasies. Now, a dream vacation means different things to different people. The travel poll asked, if there were no rules or incriminating evidence, what would your fantasy vacation be? Choices ranged from tame - catch up on sleep - to exciting - visit a clothing is optional beach. The poll is closed, and the results have been tabulated. What are our readers' dream vacations?
What do these fantasy vacation poll results tell us? Well, for one, that a strong travel desire is to have a stress-free trip all over the world. This may be truly in the fantasy realm, as unlimited travel time is out of reach for most people. But imagine - fantasize, if you will - for a moment: Where to go? A previous poll about dream vacations indicated that the top luxury travel spot people desire to go is the Mediterranean. Not many would turn up their noses to a luxury vacation in Florence, Italy. Results also show that a good night's sleep is an underrated part of any luxury vacation - so much so, in fact, that it tops many people's fantasies. The importance of high quality hotel bedding is clear. Many a fantasy vacation has been brought down by uncomfortable hotel pillows. Hedonism III in Jamaica garnered its own healthy share of votes. This wild vacation spot is an adults-only fantasy come true. Sunbathing with no clothes on is not the only part of the fantasy, of course; the all-inclusive travel packages means all food and drinks, and all activities and entertainment, are included in the vacation. Not being nickeled-and-dimed at an all-inclusive resort is a fantasy in itself: Have a clothing is optional vacation without feeling that you've had to sell the shirt off your back to do so (Hedonism II is also in Jamaica). Of course, if the fantasy is a luxury resort in Jamaica, without the in-the-buff men and women, the Half Moon and Ritz-Carlton resorts in Montego Bay fit the bill perfectly. And if the Caribbean is the desired destination, Jamaica isn't the only hot beach in town. One other fun example is the Caribbean resort Club Orient, on the French side of St. Martin. Luxury accomodations, cothing optional adults on the beach...get the picture? Fourth place of the Fantasy Vacation Poll is not hot, of course, but potentially just as fun and interesting. Taking children and teens to visit the country of their family heritage is, for many, a meaningful life event as much as a dream vacation. Teens can take care of themselves on a long flight, but toddlers cannot do so. Tips for air travel with young children can help ease a transatlantic airplane trip for kids (and the passengers around them). It's interesting to note that not one reader voted for a solo trip to Vegas as a dream vacation. Las Vegas is a very popular place to visit, but travelers interested in the illicit aspect of that city may have voted for the Hedonism Jamaica resort vacation as their dream trip. In any case, traveling alone may not jibe so well with the fun, party atmosphere encouraged by Las Vegas resorts and casinos. Group trips may have been a better option. Stick around; that may very well be a choice on a future Luxury Travel poll!
